“American Idol” judge says she was the original pop star

Paula Abdul was one of the most popular female singers of the ‘90s, that much cannot be refuted, as all the charts of the time point to that. However, as StarPulse reveals, it seems that Paula sees herself more than just a pop star, being the original pop star nonetheless, as well as the one to have influenced today’s hit singers Beyonce and Rihanna.

While what Beyonce and Rihanna sing hardly bears any resemblance to the kind of music that Paula used to put out, the “American Idol” judge is convinced that both of them should perhaps acknowledge the influence she had on their artistic maturation. If not, then at least she can tell the world about it, which is precisely what she did during one of her most recent interviews.

“My videos stand the test of time.” Paula Abdul is quoted as saying. “They are like the almanac for every performer. Even Rhianna has come up to me and said ‘I hope you don’t mind.’ And Beyonce. You can see the influence of what I’ve done. It’s really fun to see that I’ve left a mark.” the singer reportedly stated. She then added, referring to the legendary MC Skat Kat she danced with in the “Opposites Attract” video, that “It was my idea to create an animated character. It takes a lot of focus, a lot time, and a lot of money.”

So far, no media representative has come forth to ask Paula Abdul about which were the exact influences she had on Beyonce and Rihanna. Nevertheless, the comparison is far-fetched to say the least, as several e-zines have already pointed out, because, in all fairness, it’s more likely to find Paula’s influences in Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera’s early music than in that of these two singers.

Then again, Paula could be onto something that the rest of the world does not know – and will continue to live in ignorance of, until she speaks more clearly about it.
