Beyonce has a spectacular figure and she’s very proud of it. In the April 2013 issue of Shape magazine, the bootylicious singer talks about gaining weight during the pregnancy and then struggling to get back in top shape.

She’s not the skinny type, so Beyonce works hard to maintain her curves and her toned muscles. She’s the first to admit that she’s not the kind of woman that loses weight almost effortlessly.

This became even more obvious after she gave birth to her daughter Blue Ivy, her first child with husband Jay-Z.

“I gained 57 pounds [25.8 kg] when I was pregnant. I didn’t have a lot of time to lose the weight, because I scheduled a show three months after I gave birth, which I would never do again,” the singer says for the publication.

Booking a show so early on meant she had to start rehearsing for it immediately, but also to overhaul her diet to get enough energy. Once she was back in the dance studio, the weight began falling off because of the effort that went into preparing for her live appearances.

Besides dancing, these days, Beyonce also does cardio and lunges, and eats plenty of veggies and lean meat.

“I’m not a person that is naturally very thin. I am a person that has to work at keeping my body in shape,” she says.

However, her message is that, regardless of what we see in the press, women should not think that we’re all meant to look the same: we’re all different and we must all strive to be the healthiest possible, and not to look like each other.

“Not everyone is supposed to be the same. Be healthy and take care of yourself, but be happy with the beautiful things that make you, you,” Beyonce says.

She sure is doing it.
