14 DAY TRIAL // Beyonce is full of surprises these days and clearly in a very generous mood: shortly after dropping a surprise music video for the single “7/11,” the diva released a new video, this time for the song “Haunted,” which is featured on the OST of the upcoming film “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
“Haunted” is included on “Beyonce,” the Deluxe Edition. The entire “Beyonce” visual album is now available online, for free, on Beyonce’s VEVO. You can also stream it in full on Spotify, if you just want to get the music and not the elaborate stories that she came up with for many of the songs.
Back to “Haunted”: though the video was shot some time ago, you can see why the song was chosen for the much anticipated film, because it’s in the same vein. It’s super racy and very revealing, but at the same time, it’s also on the creepy side.
Beyonce plays a rich woman who arrives at this hotel that is definitely haunted. The entire video is of her walking down the hallway, looking in on people who are no longer there, doing weird stuff in the rooms on both sides of the corridor.
This being Beyonce we’re talking about, she also does a bit of dancing or, better said, a bit of writhing on a bed while showing off her famous body. I have a feeling that this video won’t sit well with all those fans who feel like Beyonce is “selling off” and trading down by putting this much emphasis on her sexuality, to the detriment of her music.
“Haunted” reminds me of Madonna’s “Justify My Love” video, only with a bit more imagination and creepiness included. It’s visually beautiful, standing out for an exaggerated attention to detail. Critics will say what they want to say, but the true Beyonce fans will probably love it.
