The other day, Nicki Minaj and Beyonce dropped the official music video for “Feeling Myself,” one of the tracks on Nicki’s “Pinkprint” album. It was released as exclusive content on Jay Z’s music streaming service Tidal, but it still found its way online to the rest of the fans, those who can’t or won’t pay the subscription.
And boy, are they unhappy! That’s because, at one point in the video, Beyonce is seen pouring what looks like very expensive champagne into the hot tub she’s chilling in.
Beyonce is rich, fans notice
As you can see in the photo attached to this article, in the “Feeling Myself” video, Beyonce is shown pouring what looks like Ace of Spades champagne into the hot tub - the more expensive version of it, the one that retails for the whopping amount of $20,000 (€17,991).
Even if she only did it for the video and it’s not something she would be inclined to do on an everyday basis, that’s a huge waste right there.
So no wonder fans took notice of it and then went online on social media to complain about it. Many of them point out that Bey could have done a world of good with this kind of money instead of pouring it down the drain, literally. She could have paid tuition for a student or fed hundreds of people in need, among other things.
Yes, she’s rich, and yes, she’s one of the biggest stars in the world. However, the fans would like her to stop flaunting her exclusive lifestyle like this, because it’s offending.
It’s her money, right?
Then again, that’s her money that she’s throwing away, other voices are saying in response.
Beyonce is not the first and will definitely not be the last celebrity to do something like this. That’s not an excuse in itself, but it’s a fact that can’t be ignored: when other artists get a pass for flashy behavior of this kind, why should fans pick Beyonce apart?
Secondly, it’s not like she doesn’t get involved in charity. Just the other day, word got out that, during the recent Baltimore riots, she and Jay “quietly” bailed many protesters out of jail and didn’t say a peep to the press about it. Other artists would have probably gone straight to the media, hoping this would boost their public profile.
At the end of the day, it’s probably a matter of perspective if her gesture is offensive or not. Sure, it’s a crying shame to throw away this kind of money for a music video, but since it’s her money, why should we care?
Then there’s the possibility that maybe there was water in that bottle.
Here are some of the angriest reactions on Twitter.
