14 DAY TRIAL // Beyonce and Jay Z are believed to be worth around $1 billion (€744.6 million) together, which makes them one of the – if not actually the – most powerful couples in showbiz right now. They won’t be that – a couple – for much longer, Page Six has learned.
In a long and rather damning piece, sourced to several unnamed insiders who claim to be privy to information never released to the public and in a position in which they witnessed many things first-hand, Page Six takes a long peek behind the curtain, to offer details into the marriage between Jay and Beyonce and their imminent divorce.
This will happen very soon, right after they wrap up their joint On the Run Tour, says one spy. Their relationship hit the lowest point in May, when Solange confronted Jay Z about his cheating and assaulted him physically, as the video leaked online confirmed.
The marriage, another source says, was never what the fans at home or the media were presented with: Beyonce and Jay Z always posed like a modern version of Bonnie and Clyde, so madly in love with each other they would do anything to make the other happy.
In reality, there was very little love on Beyonce’s part in the early stages of the relationship: even her uncle admitted years later that Jay was courting her but she wasn’t in the least attracted to him. However, she saw the potential of their union, she saw what Jay could do for her as an artist, so she jumped at the chance.
She might not have been as big as he was at the time, but she had the mind for business.
“Jay’s a kingmaker; she recognized that. This was a come-up for her, no question. She had to learn the ropes as presented by Jay — but really, this was mostly about business,” the source says.
Along the way, Beyonce got to genuinely love her husband but it didn’t last: his cheating mostly did it for her, turned her off him for good. The Solange episode, when she reportedly found out that Jay had been having an affair with his protégée Rihanna, was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Still, Beyonce is always thinking of her brand first and foremost, as also is Jay Z. At the time the video leaked, they had already announced the dates for the tour and had taken an advance pay for the shows, so there was no chance they could announce the split and then continue with it, not if they didn’t want to have to pay back money to organizers.
So they decided to stick together for at least another while, because this is what’s good for their brand.
“There’s no bigger controller than Jay. She’s great, but she’d be a little lower on the totem pole if it weren’t for hooking up with him. They are solid, solid business people who know what they’re doing,” the insider explains.
At the time of writing, neither star was available for comment.
