Everyone is probably aware by now of the Boston Marathon explosions that killed at least 3 people and injured over 100. Cybercriminals and scammers are likely to leverage the event in their malicious operations.

The SANS Technology Institute’s Internet Storm Center has requested Internet users to forward them any spam, URLs or other suspicious content that exploits the Boston Marathon bombings to handlers[at]sans.org.

So far, we haven’t seen any spam runs or attacks, but they’ll probably emerge in the upcoming hours.

Spammers might promise videos of the bombings or other related content in an attempt to lure internauts to malware-serving or scam websites.

Some con artists might also leverage the news for 419 scams, so beware of any unsolicited messages that refer to the Boston Marathon explosions.

Social media websites might also be targeted, so if you come across shady posts on Facebook or Twitter, proceed with maximum caution.
