Tons of new additions are to be had with version 1.0.1 of Bevy

Bevy is an application launcher that shows all the applications residing on your Mac's hard drive in a single window that can be opened via a global hot key, from the menu bar or by clicking its Dock icon. The program lets you specify the folders where your applications are located and creates visual groups of icons for each folder. Developer bergdesign has updated Bevy to version 1.0.1. While the version number may not signal many changes, we entice you to have a look at the lengthy list of enhancements.

The release notes reveal that Bevy 1.0.1 adds many changes, including a new preference to run Bevy in faceless mode where its menu bar icon and dock icon are hidden, and it does not appear in the system application switcher. The only access to Bevy is with the hot key and, optionally, the menu bar icon if shown, if this mode is enabled. Another new preference comes in the form of a button added to the main window for access when Bevy is running in faceless mode and without a menu bar icon.

When Bevy is running in faceless mode and is not showing its menu bar, the icon now contains all important menu items for use. Just like the Dock icon, it now shows the scanning progress as well. To prevent untitled and default windows appearing when Bevy switches you back to the previous application, bergdesign changed Bevy's deactivation behavior so the re-open event no longer gets sent to the previous application.

The developer also explains that, “When showing running apps, the Bevy window now favors the width of screen rather than the aspect ratio of the screen, so it behaves more like the built-in system switcher which grows horizontally.” Also on the graphical front, the application will now resize its window when screen changes occur.

About Bevy

Bevy displays all your application icons in a translucent pop-up window that can be opened with a global hotkey, from the menubar or even from its Dock icon, and launches your apps with a click of the mouse. The program intelligently finds which app opens which file. Just drag a picture or a song over Bevy's window and hold down the Command (CMD) key. Bevy will instantly highlight all the applications you have that can open that file. Bevy also creates groups of icons from folders you specify, helping you stay organized.
