Not many are the female celebrities who have spoken out in support of Miley Cyrus and Bette Midler has no plans of being among them. In a recent interview with Katie Couric, she called antics like Miley’s “not flattering.”

For the past few months, Miley has been transitioning from “Disney girl” to “rebel without a cause” and, most often than not, a cause isn’t the only thing that she lacks (which is one way of saying that she likes to ditch clothes whenever she can).

Bette Midler doesn’t think that showing skin equals “pushing the envelope” because that’s different from “pushing the envelope creatively,” as the video below can confirm.

“I think you can be as creative as you want to be... you can roll out old ideas and give them a new coat of paint. But the idea of whipping out the girls, I don't know, there's a grossness to it that is not flattering... to the women themselves,” she says.

Also on Katie, the special Halloween issue, Bette talked about the iconic movie “Hocus Pocus,” which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
