The game is only available on the iOS platform

Even though Bethesda's new mobile game Fallout Shelter is only available on iOS devices, it's more successful than some of the most popular games that have been around for quite a long time.

The Candy Crush Saga franchise is ranked number one in the top of games that generate most money. But King's addictive match-3 puzzle game has just been kicked from top 3 by Bethesda's Fallout Shelter, VentureBeat reports.

For those out of the loop, King announced that Candy Crush Saga generated around $229.5 million (€202.1 million) in the first quarter, which means the game makes $2.55 million (€2.24 million) per day. That's quite a huge amount, but Clash of Clans generates even more money.

Bethesda's achievement is even more surprising since the game is available only on one platform (iOS), which isn't even the largest when it comes to market share.

An Android release could put the title on number one spot for top-grossing mobile games

This means that when Fallout Shelter gets released on Android “in a few months,” it has the potential to knock Clash of Clans out of the number one spot on the top-grossing mobile games chart.

“We’re very pleased. Fallout Shelter is doing amazingly well, with no real buildup. To take such a light approach to monetization compared to other free-to-play games - we felt like we wanted to err on the side of caution and make it very unobtrusive, make sure it was fun first and foremost. So far so good,” said Pete Hines, vice president of PR and marketing at Bethesda Softworks, in an interview with GamesBeat at E3.

Part of the success that Fallout Shelter is enjoying right now might be owed to the fact that Bethesda managed to keep the secret about the game until Todd Howard announced it during the company's E3 2015 conference.

It looks like launching a mobile game at E3 is a good idea, just like kicking off a Kickstarter campaign proved a total success for Shenmue III.
