Gossip singer Beth Ditto may work as a plus-size model, but the other day she showed there is also room for her on the catwalk of an haute couture show at Paris Fashion Week, as she modeled for Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Granted, this is not the first time that the esteemed fashion designer puts a plus-size girl among his size 0 models, though Velvet was undeniably not as spirited as Ditto, InStyle says.

Not only did Beth open the show for Gaultier, but she also closed it – while also showing audiences what makes of her such a in-demand celebrity: her amazing personality.

“It was a larger than life affair on the Jean-Paul Gaultier runway last week as Beth Ditto headed up the parade of models debuting the designer’s latest collection,” InStyle writes.

However, Ditto was not included in the show as a mere curiosity, since this was Gaultier’s first collection that also included sized larger than the standard sample size.

From this perspective, the show was a historical event, as it heralds the advent of an era where regular girls (not just plus-size) will also be included in fashion shows.

“The invites promised that the show would explore the contrast between XXL and XXS, and that it did, as the plus sized pop star headed out on the runway clad in just a flower-embellished basque and fishnets, shortly followed by a flurry of teeny professionals in sample sized designs,” InStyle writes.

“She certainly brought more than her fair share of personality to the show too, as she danced her way down the catwalk, throwing her arms around to the punk soundtrack, much to the delight of front-rower Dita von Teese,” says the same report.

Jean-Paul Gaultier himself seems to be a huge fan of Beth since, at the end of the show, he came to greet her with a bouquet of flowers and wearing a Gossip t-shirt.

Indeed, as InStyle notes, he couldn’t have chosen a better regular- and plus-size ambassador, since the singer has often spoken out against size 0, proving she embraced her full figure.

Just recently, for instance, Beth was saying that, in their haste to brand anyone fat “unhealthy,” many also forget that skinny doesn’t necessarily mean healthy because many size 0 girls go to extreme lengths to remain so.

“It’s really interesting to me that people will look at a thin person and go, ‘That’s a healthy person.’ I want to go, ‘Come open my refrigerator and look and then let’s talk about what you think is so bad’,” Ditto said a few days ago, as we also reported.
