BioWare has issued a warning against pursuing or purchasing beta invitations in the wake of several Star Wars: The Old Republic scams, warning gamers to stay away from messages coming from the address [email protected] and urging them to report any attempt to sell keys they come across.

Writing on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic forum Allison Berryman, who is a community manager, says, “It has come to our attention that there are multiple individuals and sites claiming to sell testing accounts, ‘beta keys’, or other offers of access to our Game Testing Program. All of these offers are false. BioWare is not issuing invites to Game Testing via any method other than those we outline here on SWTOR.com.”

She added, “the sale of accounts with access to the Game Testing Program is strictly prohibited by the Game Testing Agreement. We closely monitor the activities of all accounts involved in the Game Testing Program, and are quick to notice accounts that change hands.”

Those who perpetrate the scam are trying to get personal and financial information from players.

One Electronic Arts executive has already said that close to 1.5 million players have signed up with BioWare in order to take part in the beta test for The Old Republic, although the company has not released the exact number of players that are actually taking part.

The Old Republic MMO is in the final development stretch, with the developers at BioWare now relying on willing fans of the genre and of the universe in order to discover bugs and imbalance that can be fixed before the launch date in order to make the initial experience as smooth as possible.

Electronic Arts and the developer have not announced an official launch date, but the Chief Financial Officer has said that the game will probably arrive at some point after July 1.
