Research In Motion's first and only tablet PC so far, the Blackberry PlayBook, is now available for pre-order in Canada via Best Buy and Future Shop, the leading handset vendor has just announced. The new device comes in three different flavors, sporting 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of storage, and being priced at $499, $599 and $699, respectively, and should reach availability on April 19th.

At that time Canadian users interested in the purchase of the new device should be able to head to all Best Buy and Future Shop stores in the country to make a purchase.

Moreover, the two would also offer the new device via their online stores, here at Best Buy, and here at Future Shop.

“Tablets are becoming a bigger part of our business everyday and the launch of the BlackBerry PlayBook will heighten the level of excitement in this category,” said Scott Anderson, head of merchandising for Best Buy Mobile.

“RIM has a tremendous history of producing great mobility products for our customers and we are excited to help launch the BlackBerry PlayBook.”

Some of the main features of this device would include: HD multimedia, advanced security features, out-of-the-box enterprise support, enhanced web browsing capabilities, or support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1.

The hardware specifications of this device would also include a 1 GHz dual-core processor, a 7-inch 1024 x 600 WSVGA capacitive LCD touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, or a 3MP camera on the front, for video calling.

1080p HDMI output was also included into the mix, as well as 1 GB RAM memory, Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n) connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR support, or built-in GPS receiver.

Moreover, the new tablet PC arrives with Accelerometer, Gyroscope, and Magnetometer, as well as with support for high resolution video playback (H.264, MPEG4, WMV), and stereo speakers and stereo microphones.

The Blackberry PlayBook measures 5.1” x 7.6” x 0.4” (130mm x 194mm x 10mm) and weighs in at 0.9 lbs (425g).
