Started as a rumor, Best Buy's upcoming release of the white DROID Incredible 2 has become a certainty, as the major retailer has just confirmed that the smartphone will be available for purchase beginning August 21 for $149.99 with new, two-year activation.

The DROID Incredible 2 by HTC from Verizon will be exclusively available from Best Buy and can be purchased from Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile specialty stores and online starting this Sunday.

Best Buy also confirmed that the white variant of the DROID Incredible 2 is similar in all aspects with the original model, save the color.

However, the major retailer mentions that the phone will be delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board, but Verizon already announced the availability of the Gingerbread upgrade one month ago.

We assume that an OTA (over the air) upgrade will be possible as soon as customers purchase the smartphone, but there's no mention about the procedure.

According to Best Buy PR team via Thomson Reuters ONE, “Best Buy Mobile has set a precedent of bringing exclusive phones and colors to the market, supporting its commitment to delivering a better choice of phones and networks. Best Buy Mobile is also focused on delivering straightforward pricing featuring no mail-in rebates.”

The white DROID Incredible 2 comes with a brilliant 4-inch WVGA capacitive multi-touch screen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

The phone is equipped with a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor, complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU, and boasts a powerful 8-megapixel digital camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash, as well as HD recording capabilities

In addition, the smartphone features a secondary 1.3-megapixel front facing camera for video calls and Mobile Hotspot capability.

On the inside, the DROID Incredible 2 packs 1.1 GB ROM, 768 MB RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB memory card included).
