Bless Benedict Cumberbatch and his wicked sense of humor. The actor won Best TV Detective for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in BBC One’s “Sherlock” at London’s National TV Awards 2014 the other night and he gave the best acceptance speech ever.

As you can see in the video above, Benedict was not in attendance at the gala because he was actually in Los Angeles on work. Ironically, he was presented with the award by Kiefer Sutherland, who is now reprising his role as Jack Bauer in the “24” movie.

Cumberbatch spoke to the audience via satellite and, while he appeared to be his usual dapper self in a dark business suit, just as he was talking about how he was in Hollywood working hard, the camera zoomed on his lower half to reveal that he was wearing shorts.

Benedict blushed and eventually admitted that the pool at “Jack’s” house was too tempting.

Obviously, the entire bit was scripted but, somehow, Cumberbatch worked it wonderfully. He also paid homage to his fellow nominees, which earns him extra points.

As soon as the video of his speech went online, social media exploded. If Cumberbatch’s reputation did not precede him where you’re concerned, just know that he has a huge following online – and his fans are wonderfully vocal whenever something like this happens.
