Company is looking into this with "insane amount of detail"

“Bendgate” is something that remains to be confirmed as an actual widespread issue. There are currently more people bending them on purpose, so it’s hard to assess if Apple really has a problem on its hands.

The term “bendgate” is something the Internet has chosen to describe a warping flaw that is allegedly typical to the latest breed of iPhones, mainly due to their thinness coupled with Apple’s choice in materials. However, it isn’t clear if it’s an issue or not.

You like big buns and you cannot lie

The problem with the iPhone 6 Plus is said to be that it’s too thin for its own size, and therefore it gets easily bent when say, you sit on it, or slide it in the front pocket of a tight pair of jeans. It’s certainly believable, but it’s also fair to assume that you need somewhat generous proportions and a really tight wardrobe to bend one simply by moving around with it in your pocket.

Anyone meeting all of the above criteria should feel quite a bit of tension while curling their legs upwards, or slamming their rears on a hard seat in the bus. Basically, common sense is all you need to avoid this situation. And frankly, regardless of the phone you own, you shouldn’t be sitting on it. Period.

Apple will do the right thing

According to a techie at Apple, the Cupertino company is working around the clock to analyze the “bendgate” situation and has plans to actually replace these phones under warranty, if the warping does turn out to be accidental.

During a discussion with the people at TNW, the Apple rep said, “Something told me to throw your symptom in the big chat room. Turns out, we’re looking into this with an insane amount of detail.”

Asked whether or not Apple will replace the damaged units free of charge, the support guy noted, “That is 100 percent up to the Genius you speak with at the store. There is a test called a Visual Mechanical Inspection that the device will have to pass. If it is within the guidelines, they will be able to cover it. If not, the replacement would be a paid one.”

So there you have it, folks. Make sure you bring a convincing story in the Apple store if you feel guilty of the aforementioned scenario. And if justice is on your side, Apple may have some recalling / refunding to do.
