14 DAY TRIAL // Although rumors about the release of the Galaxy Gio at Bell leaked quite a while ago, only recently has it become clear that the Canadian carrier plans to launch the smartphone on August 4th.
The news has been confirmed by a leaked internal document that has been published by the guys over at MobileSyrup.
According to this document, Samsung Galaxy Gio will be exclusively available at Bell, though the exclusivity timeframe in currently unknown.
Samsung Galaxy Gio is a mid-range Android smartphone, which was showcased for the first time at the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
While the phone has already made its debut in other markets since May, Bell's customers will have to wait a bit longer for the device to hit Canadian shores.
The smartphone runs Google's Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform, but users can flash any of the available unofficial ROMs that allows them to upgrade to Gingerbread.
Equipped with a single core Qualcomm QCT MSM7227-1 Turbo processor clocked at 800 MHz, Galaxy Gio lacks processing power, but keeps the high value for money offered by the Android operating system.
It only packs 158 MB of users’ memory, but the storage can be easily expanded up to 32GB thanks to the included microSD card slot.
In this regard, it is worth mentioning that the phone will be delivered with a 2GB memory card in the sales package.
The phone also sports an average 3-megapixel camera with autofocus, geo-tagging, smile detection and video recording capabilities (QVGA@15fps).
The Galaxy Gio has a 3.2-inch multi-touch capacitive display with 16 million colors support and 320 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.
The handset does not feature a secondary front-facing camera for video calls, instead it offers HSDPA (7.2 Mbps) and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, including Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
On related news, Virgin Mobile is expected to release the Samsung Galaxy Gio at some point, though there is no information regarding the exact release date.
