It appears that the Canadian carrier Bell has started to roll out the highly-anticipated Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread software update for the HTC Incredible S.

Owners of the smartphone have already reported that they have started to receive the software update OTA (over the air), which means that the trial period is over and soon the firmware upgrade will be deployed to all Bell HTC Incredible S units.

Bell promised at the beginning of the month that it will deliver Android 2.3 Gingerbread to a certain range of smartphones in its lineup, including Samsung Galaxy S (Early Summer), HTC Incredible S (mid Summer), HTC Desire Z and Motorola Atrix (Late Summer).

In addition, the carrier already delivered Android 2.3 Gingerbread to all its customers using the Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet.

Bell HTC Incredible S users that have been notified about the upgrade should immediately check out the Settings menu / About Phone / System Updates.

Some of the new features and improvements introduced by Android 2.3 Gingerbread are detailed below:

- New on-screen keyboard – standard keyboard greatly improves cut and paste feature and intuitive typing for faster input; - Streamlined user interface – new color schemes and interface changes make Android simpler to use; - Application and power management – Android 2.3 will provide clients the ability to monitor and manage running applications.

Also, new Downloads application will allow clients to control stored downloads from the browser, email and other apps.

Although Bell managed to release the Gingerbread update for the HTC Incredible S as scheduled, it appears that owners of the Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S) have yet to get it.

It seems that the “early summer” timeline was too close for Bell, as the carrier failed to deliver the Gingerbread update for Vibrant owners and there is no information about its possible launch date.
