With a certain wireless streaming technology getting steadily more widespread, although it still is in its beginning stages, Belkin figured it may as well offer an adapter specifically designed for it.

When enjoying multimedia, one needs not just the content and the broadcast system, or a PC with all the files, but also a good means of playing it.

Often, a monitor, especially the ones laptops have, doesn't fit the bill very well because of size and/or image quality issues.

Then there are situations where one has both the PC and the needed HDTV, or whatever else, but would like to get the streaming going quickly and without cable clutter.

Fortunately, Intel has the Wireless Display (WiDi) technology implemented into some systems based on its CPUs.

Unfortunately, this means that HDTVs need a special adapter to actually pick up on the signals, something Belkin tried to address.

What the company did was create the ScreenCast TV adapter (F7D4501) which comes with an included HDMI cable and can link to any of the aforementioned WiDi-enabled notebooks (a press of a single button is all that is needed on the PC's end).

“Most high definition digital content is downloaded, organized and stored on a laptop, but it’s hard to enjoy a great Blu-ray movie or share photos with family and friends on a small laptop screen with lackluster audio quality,” said Nate Kraft, Director of Product Management for Networking at Belkin.

“ScreenCast was specifically designed to address this problem and bring high quality HD audio and video from the laptop to the home theater where it can be enjoyed the way it was meant to be enjoyed – big and loud.”

Set to start selling in the middle of July, 2011, the Belkin ScreenCast WiDi adapter will have a price of $129. With it, users should have everything they need to play videos and browse the net at the same time.
