And get rid of all that coke you've spilled onto it

Do you remember when was the last time you've spilled something onto your mouse, thus ruining it forever? Well, if this thing happens way too often, then perhaps you should check out Belkin's latest offering, namely the Washable Mouse, a peripheral that can really take a beating....sorry, washing.

The main merit of the Washable Mouse is, obviously, the fact that it can easily survive spills and can be then hand-washed under the faucet to stay clean and disinfected. This is possible due to the fact that its external casing is manufactured out of a waterproof material and all the possible entry points are perfectly sealed against the action of water.

However, according to Belkin, it's not the exterior that makes the difference in the case of the Washable Mouse but, quite surprisingly, the internal components. Thus, the device has been fitted with an 1200 DPI optical sensor that provides very good tracking, especially on some less-than-usual surfaces, as for example upholstery and wood. The device is powered and communicates with the computer via an USB cable, which might seem a rather strange decision at first, but it's the logical one, considering the fact that a battery compartment would have represented a major issue in the case of a mouse that's supposed to be perfectly watertight.

As an accessory to the Washable Mouse, the people from Belkin have also launched the Mouse Trap, a special type of bag that can be used either for carrying the mouse around or as an impromptu mouse pad. The Mouse Trap also features a snap-on hook that lets it attach to the outside of a larger bag and comes in a variety of colors, namely chocolate/tourmaline, steel/burnt orange, dove/tarragon and dove/peony.

The Washable Mouse will be available in late August 2007 in the US, with launches in Asia, Europe and Australia to follow and will retail for around 30 US dollars, while the Mouse Trap can already be purchased from Belkin distributors for around $13.
