Actress admits she only stood to gain from her looks

While other female stars often complain that their good looks can be as much of disadvantage as they are an advantage, German actress Diane Kruger is willing to admit that, as far as she’s concerned, she only stood to gain from her good looks. Speaking with Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail in Cannes, the star says complaining she’s good looking would be, at this point, nothing short of hypocritical, therefore she won’t do it.

In all fairness, Kruger did get far in her career, but that’s not entirely because she is beautiful. However, when one draws the line, Diane is the first to admit that she wouldn’t have gotten even half this far if it hadn’t been for her beauty, which is why she could never complain about being exposed to double standards in the film industry, even if that should ever happen to be the case.

For her latest film, “Anything for Her” (“Pour Elle”), Kruger got to wear little to no makeup, and this is how she has come to appreciate how far her good looks have brought her, while also being grateful that she’s moved to the next stage, where she’s considered for movies solely on her acting abilities, she tells the Mail. “I wasn't hired just because I’m a pretty girl in a movie. It was really liberating not to be the girl for the sake of there being a girl. And not having to go to hair and make-up for two hours every day was a relief. But I understand I’m here because of the way I look.” Kruger explains the Mail.

Her breaking part was that of Helen of Troy in “Troy,” starring Brad Pitt – the same leading man she now joins in Tarantino’s latest masterpiece “Inglourious Basterds.” She was chosen for that first part because she was beautiful, and she has not yet come to regret that day. “I mean hey, I was cast as Helen of Troy in the movie ‘Troy.’ You sound [stupid] when you moan about your looks. It opens a lot of doors, and closes others. Then again, actors who aren’t the hottest guy or girl on the planet have other challenges.” Kruger explains.

“Anything for Her,” although completed last year, reaches the UK on June 5. To see the star in the much-hyped “Inglourious Basterds,” fans will still have to wait until August, when it’s scheduled to drop in US theaters.
