The turian proved to be an old friend, but got meaner and deadlier in the two years that I've been dead

Speculating on his true identity, or maybe just enticed by his name, the first character I wanted to recruit for my new team was the Archangel. Knowing only that he was somewhere on Omega, Miranda and Jacob told Joker to plot a course toward the Omega system. Landing in the backwater slum that is Omega, a station ruled by criminals and enforced by mercenary gangs, we quickly find out through the help of Aria, the local crime lord, that this Archangel has picked a fight with every mercenary gang that he could find, by practicing harassment and guerrilla warfare against it.

The mercenary gangs already knew where he was, since they'd managed to corner him in an old building, so the quickest way for me to reach the Archangel was to sign up as a freelancer and be taken right to my target. The plan was that we, all the freelance mercenaries that the three gangs had recruited, the Blue Suns, Eclipse and the Blood Pack, were to become cannon fodder and charge down an open bridge toward the Archangel, while a filtration team flanked him.

As soon as the charge started, I made my position on the battlefield very clear. I opened fire on the freelance mercenaries in front of me and began to push towards the Archangel. While it might have been easier to let the mercenaries get killed in the assault, I didn't really like the idea of being mistaken as one of them and getting shot down by the very man I came here to recruit.

Taking out the freelancers, I worked my way through the building only to find out that the one that managed to enrage all the mercenary gangs on Omega was none other than our old friend, Garrus. Believing that Shepard died along with the Normandy two years behind, Garrus followed in his footsteps, recruited a team and started his own war, right here on Omega, where criminals were larger in numbers than the grains of sand.

Aiding Garrus in his last stand against the mercenary gangs convinced him to rejoin "team Shepard." Since the first Mass Effect, Garrus' personality has changed quite a bit. As Joker brilliantly put it when we got back to the ship, he pulled the stick from his "back pocket" and proceeded to beating people to death with it. Garrus has always been a bit of a rebel, even when he was working at C-Sec, but now he's become a lot more of a vigilante, a lot less merciful, more aggressive and he has even developed a hefty dose of sarcasm.

I don't think I'm going to let Garrus leave my active party any time soon, but I need to see the rest of the characters too. Even so, after the talks he and I had on Omega, along with the way he approached some of the situations I already encountered at his side, so far, he's my favorite ME2 companion.
