An US company named Sonopia claims that it aims to provide every organization, group or individual with the opportunity to create branded mobile service and build a unique mobile and web community of supporters and members.

Basically, with the help of Sonopia, anyone can set up their own mobile phone service for free. The service would be managed by Sonopia and run over wireless carrier Verizon's network, enabling users to choose any name they like and set up the service in just 15 minutes online or less. While this sounds promising, in the US, at least, Sonopia will have to compete with four national networks as well as many virtual network operators.

The company has already signed up eight groups including the National Wildlife Federation, International Animated Film Society and the Long Island Ducks minor-league baseball team. Its founder and CEO, Juha Christensen was a founder of Symbian, having also served on its board of directors.

Mobile phone networks have been the playground of huge telecoms not so long ago, but now, through the new services that is launching on Monday, local sports teams or charities will be able to set up their own mobile service. Each of the services that will be marketed with Sonopia's expertise to an increasingly discerning consumer, who demands relevant services, the right price and great customer service are called a 'Sonopia'. According to the company, one can set up a Sonopia complete with calling plans, mobile phones and exclusive content in just a few easy steps. Thousands of Sonopias are expected to be created within the next few years.
