Britain's beavers went extinct some 5 centuries ago, “courtesy” of over-hunting. A few years ago, conservationists started looking into the possibility of reintroducing the species in the wild.

By the looks of it, their efforts are finally paying off. A 35-year-old woman in Devon claims that she has recently seen a beaver swimming in a local river.

“At first I thought it was an otter but when I looked closer it was clear it was a beaver,” the woman reportedly said.

Oddly enough, nobody can explain how this animal ended up in Devon. Thus, the beavers conservationists are looking after live in enclosures, and are all accounted for.

It is possible that the animal spotted in Devon has traveled to these regions all the way from Scotland, where several specimens were released in the wild about 4 years ago.

Greenheads all agree that the presence of this beaver in Devon proves that conservation programs are working.
