England lost all its wild beavers sometime during the 16th century, when the species was hunted to extinction.

Hence, conservationists and wildlife researchers alike are now jumping up and down with joy at the news that one such animal has recently been caught on camera in the country.

Information shared with the public says that the footage was obtained be a retired scientist, who decided to go looking for the elusive creature after quite a lot of people said that they had spotted it hanging around Ottery St. Mary near Exeter, Devon.

At the time when it was caught on camera, the wild beaver was busy enjoying a late night snack. More precisely, it was chewing down on a tree trunk next to River Otter, Daily Mail tells us.

Before anyone starts thinking that, since beavers were hunted to extinction in England some 500 years ago, this fellow must have pulled a Houdini and appeared out of nowhere, it must be said that its presence in the area is due to the work of conservationists who introduced several such animals in the wild not very long ago.
