A painting that few people knew existed until just recently, a topless portrait of late actress slash iconic Golden Girl Bea Arthur, went on the auction block, fetching the impressive amount of $1.9 million (€1.4 million).

Christie’s notes that the painting, done in 1991 by John Currin, was based on a photo of the actress fully clothed.

“Currin mixes nostalgia with provocation” in this particular piece of art, Christie’s says, as cited by NBC.

It now belongs to an anonymous buyer – who could very well be Matt Lauer, as Savannah Guthrie jokes in the video below – who was willing to pay that huge amount of money for it.

For the record, the final sum is under the maximum $2.5 million (€1.94 million) Christie’s was hoping it would fetch.

For the obvious reasons, the photo above, of the painting, has been cropped.
