Summer last year witnessed the launch of Overlord, a strategy game developed by Codemasters that focused on the exploits of an evil hero and his army of minions. Now, Codemasters has revealed that Overlord is going to be available for the PlayStation 3.

Overlord was noticeable for his healthy dose of humor and for its rather unique approach to the fantasy genre. We are all used to playing the good guy, the armor clad hero type that smashes through hordes of enemies to save the princess and get half of the kingdom. Ever since Mario, we've played games build around this premise. Only recently did games like Dungeon Keeper put the player into the shoes of the other side.

Overlord takes things a step further by putting you in the heavy war boots of the evil arts' master. The twist is that, by yourself, you won't accomplish much. You need your minions, little gremlin-like creatures that do your dirty work for you, be it pushing levers, killing enemies or moving big rocks. Of course, you can get your hands bloody when you so choose, aided by an impressive array of spells. The goal is to crush humans, halflings and heroes alike, so that you may become the ultimate villain. Being evil is pretty hard work and will require strategic thinking, as well as maximizing your minions' strength while trying to hide their weaknesses. All of this is the gameplay, aided by the very funny touches the developers threw in. An expansion called Raising Hell, which lets you go down and literally rule Hell, has recently been released.

Now, the game is being repackaged and optimized for the PS3. A minimap will be added to the main screen and split screen multiplayer will become available to the player. The PS3 game will feature all of the Overlord content released this far and will ship in the summer of 2008.
