SEGA has sent word that it has extended its partnership with the International Sports Multimedia and the International Olympic Committee in order to be able to create a videogame simulating the various disciplines in which real athletes will compete in the coming winter.

The developer of the game will be Eurocom Entertainemt Software. The title will be coming for the PC, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft. SEGA is promising that the level of simulation for the various sporting events will be unparalleled and that gamers will be able to actually feel the adrenaline professional athletes talk about.

Hugh Binns, who is the director of Eurocom Development Ltd, stated that “Vancouver 2010 will set a new standard for the Olympic-themed video games genre. With the innovative first person mode to immerse players even more in the game, an all new challenge mode providing hours of entertainment and stunning high definition graphics, Vancouver 2010 will be a fantastic experience.” Unfortunately, there's no list detailing which sports will be in the game and which will not.

Apart from the necessary graphical aspects, Vancouver 2010 is set to also offer new control schemes and multiplayer modes, making sure that players will be able to enjoy the game by being able to better guide the characters and by going up against their friends.

SEGA is already creating a game, also based on the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, which will feature Mario and Sonic as the athletes competing in the various events. That game will be more family and kid friendly and will probably appear before the official Vancouver 2010 title. SEGA is probably hoping that the Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics game will bring in as much revenue as the title based on the Beijing 2008 Olympics featuring the two characters.
