It seems that Battlefield Hardline, the latest competitive first-person shooter from Electronic Arts, has managed to become this year's fastest-selling video game in the United Kingdom.

The title comes from Visceral Games, the makers of the acclaimed Dead Space franchise, and offers a mixture between the established gameplay mechanics of the Battlefield franchise and the excitement of a cop drama show, set in an urban environment.

The shift in focus from the franchise's military roots aims to offer long-time fans a breath of fresh air, and to experiment with some of the core gameplay elements in order to provide a new and more engaging kind of in-game experience.

Visceral's shooter seems to have nailed the proper ratio of old and new, becoming last week's best-selling title in the UK, as the figures from GfK Chart-Trak reveal.

Although the games charts only follow physical editions sold, as there is no accounting for digital sales, they still present a pretty accurate picture of the evolution of video game trends in the recent past.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, the remake of the classic PSP title from Square Enix, debuted at number 2, likely due to the fact that it comes bundled with access to the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo.

Last week's king, Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V, slipped two places to number three.

Beyond the podium

Techland's first-person zombie survival video game Dying Light is still showing a strong presence, in spite of it being digitally available since January, coming at number 4, followed by EA Sports' hit FIFA 15.

Next up we have Nintendo's Mario Party 10 and Capcom's Resident Evil: Revelations 2, both of them new entries, followed by the usual suspects, Activision's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Microsoft's Minecraft: Xbox Edition and Minecraft: PlayStation Edition.

DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition and Zombie Army Trilogy slipped beyond the top 20, and Evolve fell from number 8 to number 19.

Another notable topic is the surge in interest in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, that almost doubled its week-on-week sales thanks to a brand new Xbox One bundle, climbing to spot number 13.
