Publisher Electronic Arts has announced today that the beta test for Visceral Games' upcoming tactical shooter, Battlefield Hardline, is now open to all Windows PC users.

Have you ever wanted to play Cops and Robbers? Who hasn't?! Battlefield Hardline puts together the best elements of the Battlefield series and injects a healthy dose of Payday 2 in order to deliver an exciting new experience, taking it to the streets.

Those who sign up for the testing session via the Battlefield Hardline website will receive instant access to the game's beta, as well as some nice perks when the game comes out, in October.

The Battlefield Hardline Beta rewards are a weapon camo / skin, a weapon sight, some additional Battlefield Hardline content, and a unique dog tag in Battlefield 4.

The official announcement on the Battlefield blog informs that the BF4 dog tags will be available in the game sometime next month.

The Battlefield Hardline beta challenges include a special Battlepack that will be unlocked at launch, for players who reach rank 10, and $1k in-game cash when users enable sharing via Facebook. Both of the rewards are open to Windows PC as well as PlayStation 4 users.

Visceral Games launched a limited beta last week, during the E3 gaming trade show, allowing an early taste of the action to a chosen few.

The game is similar to Battlefield 4, featuring the same kind of action, and the beta included a multiplayer mode where players are able to choose one of four classes, along with various instant events that alter the course of the action.

DICE General Manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson has recently revealed that Xbox players will gain access to the Battlefield Hardline beta sometime in the near future, but that it will feature some differences from the PS4 version.

"We will have a beta on on all platforms before release. But it won't be this beta on Xbox. It's not going to be the same version, just to be clear," Troedsson has said.

If you're wondering whether it's worth the effort to install the client and get into the beta, you can have a look at our Battlefield Hardline preview, complete with a nice gameplay video and some insights into how the shooter plays.

Battlefield Hardline is scheduled to take off on October 21, on the PC, Sony's PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, Microsoft's next-gen console, the Xbox One, as well as on current-gen consoles from both manufacturers.
