Battlefield 4 will finally get its Platoons mechanics tomorrow, February 27, bringing groups of players a much-needed system for them to interact and form their own community.

Battlefield 4 came out back in November of last year across the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms. Even if it was affected by a lengthy series of problems and issues, the game has received some new features from developer DICE, in between patches and updates.

Now, a much anticipated mechanic – Platoons – is finally ready for release tomorrow, February 27, according to the official announcement from developer DICE on Battlelog.

First up, a platoon can be formed by a Battlefield 4 Premium owner with a soldier of at least rank 10. For now, up to 100 members can join a platoon, but DICE plans to increase the limit in the future.

Platoons will be operated via the Battlelog online service and have both a public and a private section, where players can talk with others or among themselves. They are platform-agnostic, meaning a platoon can feature players from the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, or Xbox One platforms without any restriction.

The first iteration of platoons will allow players to manage their groups by inviting others, accepting applications, or by promoting and demoting some members. A platoon will have a custom emblem and a 4-character tag which can be easily applied by all users, even if they're changed.

Besides emphasizing cooperation and teamwork, the platoon system will also highlight a competitive side, easily showing you who your platoon is up against in terms of ranking and skill.

Being a member of a platoon also means that you can access a new progression and stats system, but only if you engage in online matches with at least three other players from your active group. All your core stats will be either averaged or accumulated and applied to the platoon.

For now, only 10 ranks will be available for platoons to progress through, but once again DICE plans on upgrading these examples.

Discussing in a platoon can also be managed by leaders, who can stick messages on top of the Battlelog feed for easy access. Players can also subscribe to certain topics and messages, and will be notified when something new gets posted.

While Battlefield 4's new platoons feature will be rolled out officially for all game owners worldwide on February 27, DICE is currently allowing preview access to some lucky users.

DICE also emphasized that this is the first iteration of the platoons system, so some problems and issues might be encountered.
