The upcoming Carrier Assault mode featured in the Naval Strike downloadable content pack for Battlefield 4 will certainly feel like a fresh experience for many gamers.

Similar to Digital Illusions CE's Battlefield 2142's Titan mode, the upcoming Carrier Assault challenges both opposing factions to sink their enemy's aircraft carrier first.

The latest post on the official Battlefield blog offers some details regarding the upcoming Carrier Assault game mode, courtesy of lead gameplay designer Gustav Halling.

Set in the South Chinese Sea, the new game mode has been conceived to be an engaging experience with a generous amount of variety present in each round. Players will start out fighting a big-scale war taking place on sea, land and in the air, vying for map control, after which everything will transition into a close-quarter fight focused on infantry action, on both carriers at the same time.

Players will have two ways of destroying enemy carriers, either by gaining full control of the map or by successfully carrying out an infantry assault on the enemy carrier, with each round divided into two different stages.

Both teams will start on their own carrier and will begin a race for the control of the several missile launchers placed on the map, achieved by capturing control points near each one. After a successful capture, missiles will be automatically fired toward the enemy carrier throughout the round, and eventually its hull will be breached, opening the opportunity for an infantry attack.

Whenever this stage is reached for any of the teams, the game transitions into carrier assault state, allowing the team to either drive a boat out to the carrier and climb aboard or use the parachute spawn points placed above it, attempting a successful infiltration.

Once inside, the team is tasked with destroying two M-COM stations, which will open up new areas of the enemy carrier, and either bringing down the carrier's hull to 0 percent health or taking down both M-COM stations will win the match for your team.

As was stated before, the Carrier Assault mode will feel familiar to Battlefield 2142 veterans, as it is intended as an homage to the classic game mode, and the developers state their hope that players will have as much fun para-dropping on the enemy carrier as they had blasting off in a rocket pod toward a Titan.

The Carrier Assault mode will be playable in Battlefield 4 Naval Strike later this month, and will be released for Battlefield 4 Premium members first.
