The development team at DICE, publisher Electronic Arts and the ESL eSports organization are announcing that they are making some big changes to the coming summer 2015 season for Battlefield 4, aiming to keep fans engaged while improving the overall level of the competition.

The Battlelog announcement explains that the Squad Obliteration mode is coming to the shooter, with teams set to now fight to control a bomb that can be used to destroy the M-COM stations that their opponents hold.

The involved companies are saying, "Each team has 3 M-COM stations that they will have to protect from their enemies. When a team loses two of their M-COM stations, they lose the match."

The Squad Obliteration mode for Battlefield 3 will increase the tactical element involved in all ESL One matches and will force the player to choose a more balanced approach between defensive and offensive.

The action for the Summer 2015 season will start on June 2, and the finals will take place in August during the Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany.

The overall prize pool for Battlefield 4 teams is set at 45,000 Euro (57,000 dollars), and gamers from Europe, North America and Oceania are involved.

Battlefield 4 might get new content before the end of the year

The development team at DICE has recently launched the big Spring Update for the military shooter, which added five new weapons to the multiplayer, introduced the Gun Master mode and made other tweaks to gameplay.

The company is also putting the finishing touches on the map for Battlefield 4 which was created in collaboration with the player community and is set to be offered for free.

So far, no official launch date for it has been announced.

The fact that the title still has a solid player base and that it attracts attention when it comes to eSports might mean that more content for it might arrive from DICE before the end of the year.

At the moment, the company is focused on putting the finishing touches on the Star Wars Battlefront experience, which will be introduced on November 17 and will get a range of new content based on The Force Awakens movie for free.
