Battlefield 3 will be running on consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at 30 frames per second and at a 720p resolution, according to its developer, DICE.

Battlefield 3, after the large scale debate over pre-order bonuses that affected its largely positive image last week, is now in the midst of another debate, after the game was showcased during the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon talk show running on the PlayStation 3 console.

After seeing it in quite a lot of stunning videos made with the PC version of the game, many console gamers that are eagerly awaiting the release of the new game later this year felt that Battlefield 3 on the PS3 looked a bit underwhelming.

In order to prevent any actual speculation, DICE has now revealed through a batch of Twitter posts from its staff, compiled by BF3blog, that Battlefield 3 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 will have a locked framerate of 30fps and it will run in a 720p HD resolution.

This is half of the traditional framerate sported by its biggest rival, the Call of Duty series, which is locked at 60fps on consoles and made a name for itself with its smooth gameplay, which will be a part of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

DICE adds that the power of the Frostbite 2 will be apparent even at 30fps, as the capabilities of the engine, including large scale destruction, the ability to render bigger maps and more realistic animations, will make up for its lower framerate.

On the PC, however, Battlefield 3's engine will be able to really show what it can do, provided the player has a powerful enough computer to run it at more than 30fps and with extra features like higher resolution textures, more anti-aliasing and other post-processing options.

Do you believe Battlefield 3's 30 frames per second rate will harm it in the battle against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or will gamers be amazed by the graphical fidelity of the DICE game in front of the Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games-developed title?
