14 DAY TRIAL // Battleborn, the upcoming first-person shooter from Borderlands developer Gearbox Software, has just received a wide range of new gameplay details, emphasizing its special mechanics and modes, not to mention a new video, a set of screenshots, and a winter release period, probably in the early months of 2016.
Gearbox Software has delighted millions of fans with the Borderlands titles, and while most recent titles haven't exactly lived up to expectations, the studio has been working hard on Battleborn, an ambitious all-new intellectual property that takes the first-person shooter genre and applies mechanics similar to those in multiplayer online battle arena experiences like Dota 2, League of Legends, or the more recent Heroes of the Storm.
Battleborn gets a range of new details and more goodies
After having shared some details quite some time ago, Gearbox and publisher 2K are back with more information about Battleborn, not to mention a gameplay video, a few screenshots, and a loose release period.
First up, the actual game is going to include not just a multiplayer mode with different game types but also a story campaign where players can embark on different missions to save the last star in the universe, either alone or with friends via a cooperative mode.
The actual multiplayer experience includes three different modes, starting with Incursion, which is just like in a MOBA, as two teams of five heroes must defend their base from the attacks of the opposing group while trying to destroy the enemy buildings.
Devastation is the second online mode, operating as a team deathmatch and objective experience, as teams must hold down specific areas while killing enemies. Meltdown is the third mode, in which teams must protect their minions as they march to their death in the center of the map. Each minion suicide means points, so you must ensure that your AI-controlled allies aren't killed by the enemy team.
There are 25 different heroes in Battleborn, and you can admire quite a few of them in the latest gameplay video below, not to mention the impressive screenshots that depict lots of intense action.
Battleborn is set to appear this winter on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. While no release date was given, it's a safe bet that it will appear in either January or February of 2016.
