BattleForge is a pretty interesting title set out to combine real time strategy features with card based battles. The game is slated for an early 2009 release, and is under development by Electronic Arts' Phenomic Studio in Germany.

The company announced that the worldwide open beta would kick off this Friday, on November 7, and players can already register to participate in this event on the official site. Only a few lucky ones will be picked from the registered users, but gamers from North America can guarantee themselves a spot in this online beta by pre-ordering the game at their favorite retail store.

“After three years in development, we are very excited to open the game to a mass audience and see how people play. It’s going to be a great process watching players experience the revolutionary concept of creating their own armies and teaming up on a massive scale in RTS,” said Volker Wertich, Creative Director.

The game is set to offer players an intriguing gameplay experience, with trading cards being the basis for the whole game. They will enable you to construct units, building or unlock spells which have a direct effect on the battlefield. Also, BattleForge will offer both single player and co-op scenarios where you can work together and vanquish enemies. The online experience is also pretty interesting, as the game promises PvP (Player vs. Player) battles and the opportunity to wage war in the form of two or four player teams, even having 12 player battle scenarios.

All in all, BattleForge looks quite well and will surely get the attention of card battle fans. Let's just hope that Phenomic will do a great job with this game and really take into account the feedback the studio will get from this beta stage.
