Developer The Behemoth has announced that the infamous and humorous BattleBlock Theater is soon calling off its love affair with the Xbox 360 and coming to PC, on Steam, with more cats, weapon switching and some other platform-related features.

BattleBlock Theater is a platform game published by Microsoft Studios on the Xbox Live Arcade last year, from the same creators of the ancient (2002) side-scrolling shoot'em up video game Alien Hominid, originally released on Newgrounds, as well as the 2008 hit medieval beat'em up Castle Crashers.

The news of coming to the PC was revealed on The Behemoth blog, and in an ever so slightly exaggerated announcement trailer that shows some of the frantic gameplay and the humor that makes BattleBlock Theater so great.

If you want to see why everyone liked it, you can check out our review of BattleBlock Theater for the Xbox 360, complete with screenshots and a gameplay video.

The game tells the tale of group of passengers who find themselves stranded on a mysterious island after the S.S. Friendship becomes shipwrecked. After waking up from the disaster, the player character finds shelter in an abandoned theater, where he discovers that the entire crew have been taken prisoners by cats who force them into deadly theater performances for their amusement.

From the imaginative levels to the humor-infused narration, the simple controls and puzzles, everything works together seamlessly to provide a truly remarkable experience.

The trailer also shows some of the improvements that the developers have made to the game, with features such as weapon switching that allows players to cycle between a primary and secondary weapon in-game and new Cat Guard enemies waiting to pounce on unsuspecting players throughout Story Mode.

Furthermore, Steam Workshop integration will allow users to exercise their creative freedom to its fullest extent and create levels for players to cooperate or compete on, and Steam Inventory integration will allow gamers to trade and sell weapons, prisoners and gems via Steam.

BattleBlock Theater will also come to Steam with integrated support for X input, Direct Input and Keyboard/Mouse support.

Additionally, only during March, registrations for the Closed Beta test of BattleBlock Theater will allow a select few to get their hands on the Steam version of the game. Registration will last until all beta keys have been distributed, and the Steam beta of BattleBlock Theater starts on March 24 and ends on March 31.
