A cat got the royal treatment when Batman and Captain America sprang to save her from a burning home. The incident took place in Milton, Cabell County, West Virginia on Saturday.

Two men dressed in superhero outfits were attending an American Legion Post meeting next door. John Buckland and Troy Marcum were dressed for a costume party.

They definitely made police officers' day when they arrived at the scene to see them struggling to rescue a kitten while outfitted like their favorite characters.

“I said [to Marcum] ‘Captain, I need you to find the biggest rock you can find, and throw it through that window right there to let some of this smoke out of that front room,’” Buckland recalls.

According to WCHSTV, he owns the “Hero 4 Higher” company and makes appearances at charity events for children.

“I grabbed his shoulders, gave it everything we got and the door opened. […] He (Captain America) breaks out the window. [...] The smokes lets out and as I can start to see I reach down and grab something furry!” he describes breaking into the home.

Huffington Post wrote that Buckland even gave the cat mouth-to-mouth as it was passed out. The ungrateful feline attacked him after feeling better.

“The cat comes around. [...] Takes a look at me, then hissed!” he says.

Buckland is a former firefighter, who served in the military in Iraq.

“He did a great job. [...] It was complete chaos!” witness Tom Cantaberry recalls.

Buckland responds that he is no hero. No injuries have been reported during the incident, as the owners left the house after experiencing issues with the electric system.

“I just wonder what the cat was thinking. […] I'm glad no one was inside,” he comments.
