There was no marketing calculation motivating the team

The development team at Splash Damage says that the multiplayer modes in the new Batman: Arkham Origins are a core part of the experience and will not feel like they were added just to tick another checkbox on the game’s package.

When the multiplayer was announced, many fans of the franchise stated that all resources devoted to it would be better used enhancing the single player of the title.

Alastair Cornish, the creative director at Splash Damage, tells The Official Xbox Magazine that, “It’s something that we bore in mind; there can often be cynicism in some quarters – not in others – about this. And I think the two things that are very important to stress there are – these are being developed in parallel, so the single player is being developed by Warner Bros. Montreal, with no kind of interference or distraction from Splash Damage.”

The single and the multiplayer will be delivered on the same game disk and gamers will be able to use skills developed in one mode to succeed in the other.

The developer also rejects the idea that Warner Bros., the publisher of Batman: Arkham Origins, is only delivering a multiplayer mode in order to fulfill a requirement of modern players.

Cornish adds, “it was a discussion about, what would the natural growth of the franchise be like? And it’s a really cool premise! That simple premise of, hold on, what would invisible predator be like if you were stalking other human players? And again, not just gang members but elite gang members.”

The multiplayer in Batman: Arkham Origins will see Batman and Robin, with all their arsenal of gadgets, face off against powerful gang leaders who are also able to call in villains like The Joker.

The title will launch worldwide on October 25 on the PC, the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Wii U from Nintendo.
