It's unclear whether the Western Collector's Editions will be offered

Video game publisher Warner Bros. and platform holder Sony have entered a deal which will see the upcoming Batman: Arkham launch exclusively on the PlayStation 4 home console on the Japanese market on July 2 of next year.

The information comes from the official site of the company for the country and also has an attached image advertising the fact that there are no plans to deliver the experience on the Xbox One home console from Microsoft.

The two companies have not offered any information on the terms of the deal they have created for Batman: Arkham Knight, and there are no details on whether the two Collector’s Editions for the title, which will include extra content and figurines of the Dark Knight or his Batmobile, will be offered on the Japanese market.

Traditionally, Western games tend to be less than successful in the Asian country, which has a strong internal development scene, and the deal might actually make Batman: Arkham Knight more attractive to gamers, as long as the publisher can introduce some interesting extra content.

The final outing of the Bat

This is the final game in the current series that developer Rocksteady plans to work on. It’s designed to once again show how Batman can secure Gotham while under attack from a gallery of rogues and includes the all new Arkham Knight, which has been created specifically for the title by DC Comics.

The development studio claims that all the core mechanics of the series, including the exploration and the brawling, will be present and that all of them have been expanded by the addition of the Batmobile, which gamers can use to solve some puzzles but also to take out a range of new and powerful enemies.

Exclusivities might become more common

The fact that Batman: Arkham Knight will only be offered on the PlayStation 4 in Japan might be a sign of how Sony plans to respond to the fact that Microsoft has secured a time exclusivity deal with Square Enix for the future Rise of the Tomb Raider experience, which will arrive during the holiday season of 2015.

The two platform holders, who are constantly aiming to boost numbers for their consoles, might work hard in the future to secure more exclusivity deals, which tend to traditionally be disadvantageous for gamers.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be offered on both current-gen devices in the West and comes complete with some cool additions for those who pre-order the Collector’s Editions.
