Entry-level power supply units aren't usually given any feature that could make them stand out or apart form their peers, but Antec figured it may as well break this trend when it designed the Basiq.

Regardless of what a desktop PC is made of, what prowess it has and what consumers it is built for, there is are just some components they cannot exist without.

The motherboard and CPU are no brainers, while the third essential item, though it has no direct bearing on performance, is the PSU.

A power supply is precisely what Antec now unveiled, or, more specifically, a pair of such components have been completed and officially announced.

Bearing the name of Basiq, the series is aimed at consumers who want to build a PC without spending too much on it.

On the flip side, though the Basiq Power VP450 (450W) and VP350 (350W) definitely do bring to the table more than the standard low-end features.

More specifically, they come in a black paint coating, despite the fact that entry-level PSUs don't usually bother covering the dull gray of the metal case.

For customers that want the exact specs, Antec designed the duo with two 12V rails each and compliance with the ATX12V v2.3 standard.

Other advantages are the low noise produced by the fan, whose diameter is 120 mm, and protection from over voltage, over current, short circuits and over power.

Fortunately, unlike episodes where a device or component is announced but not made immediately available, Antec is already selling the Basiq Power VP450 and VP350, for $48.95 and $44.95, or at least these are the suggested retail prices.

The reality, it turns out, is a bit more favorable towards prospective buyers, since the 450W model can be found here for just $40.99.
