Enviable ringlets are just “minutes away”

Hairstylists are telling us that curls are back to being all the rage this cold season and, while most of us are not that lucky as to have natural curly hair, those that do should pay heed to what specialists are saying, if they want to keep up with the trends. Other than the advantage of making one look younger and fresher, curly hair is also considered a sign of innocence and naturalness. However, the cold weather does have really nasty effects on curls, and this is why we must do whatever we can to keep them looking as good as possible.

The first secret towards achieving perfect curls, and the most obvious as well, is a good haircut. The golden rule in this case is that, the shorter the hair, the curlier it gets, so stylists advise us (those who have natural ringlets, that is) to always choose a cut that best frames the face. For thick curls, layers are recommended to avoid what is known as “helmet hair,” while those who prefer larger ringlets might consider a longer do that would make them weigh heavily.

The first and most important step taken, curls also need moisturizing, and measures to fight frizz and make sure they are in perfect condition. Stylists say that the best way to achieve these three objectives is to, first off, use shampoo and conditioner for dry or damaged hair (as they will prevent dryness, therefore frizz) – while we might not consider we need this type of hair products, stylists say it’s best to play it safe, if we really want to avoid looking like Tina Turner on a bad hair day. Next up, we must apply hair serum or curl perfector to make sure frizz is out of the question even on the wettest of weathers.

However, good curls begin at home, so we should also pay proper attention to our hair, as it must surely be feeling the effects of all those products we sometimes overuse. In this sense, stylists say we must never forget about the old-school hot oil treatment, which will not only bring life back into damaged hair, but will also ensure enough moisture to keep those curls looking as if just ripped out of a beauty magazine.

All these steps followed to the letter, there is virtually nothing standing in the way of us getting those perfect curls we’ve always dreamed of – except for a very strong wind perhaps.
