14 DAY TRIAL // Every year, TV icon Barbara Walters sits down for interviews with some of the most influential and talked about public figures of the moment. The 2013 edition of her Most Fascinating people will be her last because she’s officially retiring.
Even so, it doesn’t really bring any major surprises. ABC has announced that the number one, most fascinating person of those who made it on the list will be announced in a special that will air this month.
The special will also include short interviews with all those Ms. Walters picked, so expect chit-chats with Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Robin Roberts of Good Morning America, and Jennifer Lawrence.
“Some of the year’s biggest names in news, entertainment and pop culture are sitting down with Walters for her annual special ‘Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of the Year.’ The 90-minute program will air Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 9:30 p.m. ET,” ABC reports.
“The special, in its 21st year, includes Hollywood darling Jennifer Lawrence, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, ABC News’ very own ‘Good Morning America’ anchor Robin Roberts, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, together known as KimYe, the breakout stars from the hit reality TV show ‘Duck Dynasty,’ and arguably the most famous infant in the world — Duchess Kate and Prince William’s baby George, the heir to the British throne,” the network further says.
The TV special will also include a look back at previous editions, starting with the first, which aired in 1993.
Walters’ Most Fascinating list isn’t necessarily a testament to the “value” of the people included on it, but rather to their popularity and ability to hold headlines for the most insignificant things.
Kim and Kanye are definitely the perfect example of that, Kim being a reality star who built an empire on the mere ability of selling her life as some sort of product, without actually having any particular talent.
This also explains Miley’s presence on the list: her recent transformation has cost her fans and credibility, but she is, at the end of the day, fascinating to watch. Regardless of whether you hate her or you love her, you’re probably reading about what she did last night or on her most recent public appearance.
