Bank of Hanover attacked by phishers

The Bank of Hanover was recently attacked by several phishers, aiming to attract the bank's customers to reveal their financial information and account data. Websense Security Labs sustained that numerous bank clients received an e-mail message presenting a survey able to redirect the users to a phishing site to steal their information. Websense Security Labs sustained the website was hosted in the United States and was quickly shut down after the company released the alert. The survey claimed the users would receive $99.99 if they agree to answer some feedback concerning the quality of their services.

"CONGRATULATIONS !!! You have been chosen By Bank Of Hanover online departament to take part in our quick and easy 5 questions survey. In return we will credit $99.99 to your account - Just for your time! Helping us better understand how our customers feel benefits everyone. With the information collected we can decide to direct a number of changes to improve and expand our online service. The information you provide us is all non-sensitive and anonymous," the email sustained.

In fact, what is a phishing attack? It is usually a malicious attempt started by hackers, aiming to lure users to post their financial information, bank accounts or credit card data. Generally, the attackers are trying to build a similar page with the one hosted by a bank and attract users to visit it. After the website is uploaded and published on the Internet, they are sending millions of spam messages to the customers from every corner of the world, trying to lure them to visit the page and log in with their username and password. After the user is connected, the attacker is able to see his private information and of course, to make transactions and transfer all the money to a certain account.
