Shining Rock Software has announced the release of its city building strategy game Banished, now available on Steam, GOG, The Humble Store and its official website.

Banished is a one-man project that's been in the making for around two and a half years, and has already reached the top of the popular games list on Steam since it became available, yesterday.

Players will gain control of a group of exiled people who are starting their lives in the wilderness with nothing but a few supplies brought from their former home.

All the townspeople work, build, have children, age and eventually die, so players have a difficult task ahead of them, managing the settlement and keeping the inhabitants happy, healthy and well fed.

Players have complete freedom, and any structure can be built at any time, provided that there are enough resources. The game puts on emphasis on freedom and does not guide their players toward a specific goal.

Villagers have many occupations to choose from, ranging from farming and hunting to teaching and healing. Players can even assign them to replant forests and build quarries and mines.

The town's inhabitants are the main resource players have at their disposal in creating a better future for the remote community of exiles, and players will have to pay attention to their specific needs and preferences.

Banished presents an endless fight for survival in the unforgiving wilderness, complete with all the hardships of medieval life. Houses will catch on fire and villagers will get sick and die, and users have to carefully plan if they want their budding societies to thrive.
