The “Back to the Future” movies were hugely successful back in the '80s and producers are banking on that success to take the story of Marty McFly and his time travels to the stage as a musical.

The “Back to the Future” musical has been greenlit to premiere in the West End in 2015, to mark the movie's 30-year anniversary. The musical is said to follow loosely in the steps of the story portrayed originally in the film by Robert Zemeckis.

But it will, however, use music from the original films, as well as some added songs that were adapted especially for the stage.

According to Contactmusic, one of the producers involved in the process said, “It will be true to the spirit of the film without being a slavish remake.”

“We intend to use music from the movie along with brand new songs to make a version of 'Back to the Future' that is fresh, entertaining and takes advantage of all the amazing things that can now be done on stage,” the statement went on to say.

“Back to the Future” thus becomes the latest ‘80s Hollywood hit to be turned into a musical for the stage, alongside titles such as “Dirty Dancing and Ghost.”
