14 DAY TRIAL // Last week, a middle-aged man passed away without warning in his home in the small town of Pleasant Hill in Louisiana, US. When collapsing, the man landed on his baby girl, whom he pinned against a wall.
Being just 11 months old, the girl failed to free herself and drag her body from under her father's corpse. Hence, she ended up spending about three days trapped under the man's body, her head resting on the wall she was pushed up against.
During the time that she was pinned to the ground by the weight of her dead father's body, the baby girl had nothing to eat or drink. Still, she somehow managed to survive. The girl is now undergoing treatment at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport.
The doctors in charge of looking after her say that, despite the ordeal she went through just days ago, the girl appears to be in good condition. She has access to several toys and appears to very much enjoy playing with them. She is expected to make a full recovery.
A mind-bogglingly close call
Information shared with the public by police officers in Louisiana, US, says that this baby girl's father was a 43-year-old man named Jason Fields, who had been struggling with heart trouble for quite a while before passing away.
According to the coroner who examined his dead body, 43-year-old Jason Fields died after suffering a cardiac arrest. Simply put, his heart stopped contracting properly and he experienced a sudden stop in effective brain circulation.
By the looks of it, the man died so fast that he didn't even get the chance to make sure that his daughter was out of harm's way before collapsing to the floor. Instead, he landed right on top of the 11-month-old baby, nearly crushing her.
As detailed by Sky News, it was the baby girl's young brother who saved her life by alerting neighbors that his father was dead. It is estimated that, before finally being rescued, the young girl spent about three days with her dad's corpse lying on top of her.
During this time, Betty Jean Fields developed several skin blisters and even a dark indentation on the right side of her forehead. What's more, doctors say that, at the time she was found and brought to hospital, she was severely dehydrated and pretty much starving.
The good news is that, as mentioned, the 11-month-old girl is now feeling much better. She is still looked after by staff at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport, but doctors are confident that they will soon be able to discharge her.

It is understood that, at the time 43-year-old Jason Fields died and landed on his daughter, the baby girl's mother was in prison. She was released shortly after this incident, and authorities say that she is to be entrusted with looking after Betty Jean and her brother.
Although they are deeply saddened that his heart condition finally got the best of Jason Fields, the girl's family cannot help but smile at the thought that, for some reason, the 11-month-old baby somehow managed to survive this gruesome experience.
