The calf is merely two weeks old, conservationists are trying to keep him alive

Earlier this week, a two-week-old baby rhino became an orphan after its mother got killed by poachers. Luckily for him, a team of conservationists found him and took him under their care.

Because the calf is still very young, his rescuers fear that he has little chances of surviving this experience. Still, they claim that he is doing fairly well, given the circumstance he finds himself in.

As they explain, the baby rhino was both dehydrated and traumatized when they first stumbled upon him. “It was a challenge getting hold of the calf as it was very scared but thankfully it is fine and doing well now,” conservationist Deba Dutta said.

The World Wildlife Fund informs us that, for the time being, the baby rhino spends most of his time trying to stay out of sight by cowering in the corner of the store room where he is being held.

This baby rhino was found in the Manas National Park, in Assam, India.
