14 DAY TRIAL // Folks visiting Chester Zoo in the United Kingdom can now hope to spot and maybe even snap a photo of a baby Alaotran gentle lemur while exploring this wildlife park.
The baby lemur, a photo of which is available above, was born at this facility about a month ago. However, it was only a few days ago that it made its public debut.
Staff at Chester Zoo say that the wide-eyed creature's parents, mom Molly and dad Fady, work together making sure that their little bundle of joy stays out of trouble and that it has everything it might need or desire.
“Both mum and dad are doing a great job of bringing up their new charge. Mum is super protective and dad is also pulling his weight,” curator Tim Rowlands explained in a statement, as cited by Zoo Borns.
For the time being, veterinarians cannot say for sure whether the baby lemur is a boy or a girl. However, they expect that it will not be long until this mystery is solved.
According to wildlife researchers, this species owes its name to the fact that it can only be found living in the proximity of Lake Alaotra in Madagascar. Chiefly due to habitat destruction, these lemurs are now considered critically endangered.
In fact, conservationists say that, for the time being, just 2,500 such animals are left in the wild. Hence, efforts are being made to breed this species in captivity at facilities like the UK's Chester Zoo.
