Northern fur seals are presently an endangered species, primarily because, throughout the years, people have continuously killed them in order to get their meat and their fur.

However, efforts are made to help restore their population out in the open waters, so numerous wildlife parks are pushing towards breeding these animals in captivity.

The fur seal cub that has just recently been born at the New England Aquarium in Boston is the result of careful planning and considerable efforts coming from conservationists.

Thus, his parents were brought together by zoo employees in New York and Seattle, and it took quite a lot of time before they decided to get along with each other and start up a family.

The baby seal is the first one born to the Boston Aquarium as a result of this breeding program, so naturally everybody is quite proud of this achievement.
