A baby elephant in Assam, India, owes its life to a group of people who helped it free itself from a muddy ditch in which it fell while trying to keep up with its herd.

Apparently, the tiny pachyderm ended up in the muddy ditch after accidentally rolling down a small hill located right beneath a local railway.

Luckily for the elephant, the train's conductor and passengers spotted it and decided to come to its aid.

According to Daily Mail, people aboard the train offered the baby elephant food and managed to keep it fairly calm until a forest official arrived and pulled it out of the mud.

The pachyderm did not suffer any major injuries – except for a bruised ego, perhaps – and was soon reunited with its family.

Hopefully, it will be more careful the next time it goes about exploring hills, be they small or steep.
